The following information may be helpful in answering some of your questions:

I work from photographs, so it is very important to have high quality, detailed and clear photos to work from.  Color accuracy is also very important, especially in animal portraits. I can work from several photos, if necessary, to establish individual markings or color.  For example, it is extremely difficult to see details and shadows in photos of solid black animals, so detailed and clear reference photos are needed. You may email JPEG photos to me, mail photos or color copies, or hand-deliver the photos to me.

Pricing depends on the complexity of the subject, complexity of the background, number of subjects, and size of the painting, but typically, an 11" x 15" watercolor painting, matted and ready to frame in a 16" x 20" frame, with 1 subject, and a standard background would be $250.  Please contact me for a personalized quote. 

I'm really sorry to have to do this, but due to a few past experiences with commission work, I now require 1/2 of the quoted price BEFORE I begin the painting.  The balance is due upon delivery.  I really prefer that I deliver paintings in person, but if circumstances require the painting to be shipped, there will be an additional charge for packaging, shipping, and insurance.  (The balance due and shipping charges are required prior to shipping.)  Each painting is a one-of-a-kind, and it would be a tragedy if it was lost or damaged in shipping.  This is why I get really nervous about shipping original paintings, but will do so, if necessary, and if they are insured.

Please allow 6--8 weeks for me to complete your painting from the time I begin.  In order to achieve the detail in my work, it takes quite a while.  Also, depending on the time of year, and other paintings I may be working on, it may take longer.  I cannot guarantee a painting to be ready by Christmas, unless I start on it by October 15, especially if I have others I need to complete as well.  Please contact me as early as possible, and at least 8 weeks prior, if you have a certain date that you need your painting completed by.
